The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Austin (YNPN Austin) works to provide accessible professional development opportunities that empower young leaders and advance the nonprofit community. Our vision is a cultivated network of engaged young leaders that meets the diverse needs of the greater Austin nonprofit community. YNPN Austin is looking for passionate young leaders for the 2019 YNPN Austin Board of Directors. No previous experience with YNPN Austin is required, just a love for the nonprofit community!

2019 Board Commitment:

Board Term

Vice Chairs serve a 1-year term and are eligible for re-appointment for two additional terms.

Chairs serve a 2-year term and are eligible for re-appointment for two additional terms.

General Requirements:

  • Be a paid member of YNPN Austin
  • Interpret the organization's work and values in the community, represent the organization and act as a spokesperson in informal settings.
  • Act as a BOD event lead at three (3) membership or professional development events throughout the course of the year. Also, BOD members will ensure that their committee is represented at the most, if not all, monthly YNPN events.
  • Attend the annual fundraiser, the Do Gooder Games, and annual Kick-Off event.

Leadership, Governance, and Oversight

  • Review outcomes and metrics created by YNPN Austin for evaluating the impact and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics
  • Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings 
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting other Board members and committee members that reflect the community YNPN Austin serves
  • Represent YNPN Austin to stakeholders; act as an ambassador for the organization 
  • Support fundraising efforts and consider YNPN Austin a philanthropic priority; YNPN Austin expects to have 100 percent of Board members make an annual contribution of $50.

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about YNPN Austin’s mission. Selected Board Members will preferably have prior experience with YNPN Austin or another YNPN chapter.

Ideal candidates for YNPN Board Leadership will have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently and relish working on a dynamic team.
  • Ability to be dependable, flexible, and have a great sense of humor.

Chair Specific Duties 

In addition to the general YNPN Austin Board Duties listed above, Chairs are responsible for:

  • Serve as a voting member of the Board of Directors
  • Attending the monthly board meeting
  • Attending the monthly council meeting
  • Tracking and reporting key performance indicators to the board

The estimated monthly expectations for a Chair is 15 hours, including the board meetings, council meetings, professional development events, and networking events. Time may decrease or increase from month to month.

Vice Chair Specific Duties

In addition to the general YNPN Austin Board Duties listed above, Vice Chairs are responsible for:

  • Attending the monthly council meeting
  • Taking attendance and minutes during the committee section of the council meeting
  • Attending four board meetings each year, the January on-boarding, the July retreat, the DGG planning meeting, and the December meetings

The estimated monthly expectations for a Vice Chair is 10 hours, including the board meetings, council meetings, professional development events, and networking events. Time may decrease or increase from month to month.

Position: Membership Events Chair

Committee: Membership Events Committee
Council: Membership Experience Council

Working in conjunction with the Membership Events Vice Chair, the Chair is responsible for the strategic direction, management and planning of YNPN Austin’s Membership events. Previous experience in the creation and execution of events is encouraged. 

  • Plan and execute YNPN Austin’s Behind the Scenes Membership Events
  • Plan and execute YNPN Austin’s Networking With an Executive and other specialty events
  • Coordinate with the Membership Engagement committee as well as the board to develop recruitment and retention events.

Position: Communications Vice Chair
Council: Communications Council

Working in conjunction with the Communications Chair, the Vice Chair is responsible for the managing all internal and external communications and marketing efforts.

  • Develop effective strategies for promoting all YNPN Austin’s events and programs and engaging our audience across multiple channels.
  • Develop and maintain organizational branding.
  • Maintain website, ensuring all events, job postings, and membership information are updated.
  • Track our success via analytics tools and qualitative measures.
  • Oversee the publishing of monthly email digest to membership base.
  • Send special email notifications to membership base, as needed.

Position: Finance Vice Chair
Council: Finance Council

Working in conjunction with the Vice President, Finance, the Vice Chair is responsible for the planning of management of YNPN Austin’s finances and administrative processes.

  • Manage all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for YNPN Austin
  • Develop and oversee YNPN Austin’s yearly budget
  • Monthly and ad-hoc financial reporting
  • YNPN Austin purchasing
  • YNPN Austin bylaws and compliance
  • Technology and security management

Position: Membership Engagement Vice Chair
Committee: Membership Engagement Committee
Council: Community Council

Working in conjunction with the Membership Engagement Chair, the Vice Chair is responsible for the recruitment and retention of both organizational and individual memberships.

  • Develop and implement a strategy for the recruitment of a new individual and organizational memberships
  • Develop and implement a strategy for the retention and renewal of a new individual and organizational memberships
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Partnership committee to build relationships with organizations in the Austin community
  • Coordinate with the Programming Council for membership marketing opportunities

Position: Membership Events Vice Chair

Working in conjunction with the Membership Events Chair, the Vice Chair is responsible for the planning of YNPN Austin’s Professional Development events.

  • Plan and execute YNPN Austin’s Behind the Scenes Membership Events
  • Plan and execute YNPN Austin’s Networking With an Executive and other specialty events
  • Coordinate with the Membership Engagement committee as well as the board to develop recruitment and retention events.

Position: Professional Development Vice Chair

Working in conjunction with the Professional Development Chair, the Vice Chair is responsible for the planning of YNPN Austin’s Professional Development events. Previous event experience is not required.

  • Plan and execute YNPN Austin’s Speaker Series events
  • Plan and execute YNPN Austin’s Tacos & Tips events
  • Plan and execute specialty events like the Headshot Happy Hour, or partnered events like the New Leaders Academy with AYC or Thoughtful Leadership: Using Emotional Intelligence to Lead with Mission Capital

Position: Social Media Vice Chair
Committee: Communications Committee
Council: Communications Council

Working in conjunction with the Communications Chair, the Vice Chair is responsible for the managing all internal and external communications and marketing efforts.

  • Manage social media calendar, and schedule posts for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, & Instagram
  • Create and post content and graphics on various social media channels using YNPN voice and brand
  • Follow and respond to other nonprofit social media accts
  • Share YNPN organizational member job openings on social media
  • Do live (real-time) posting during all YNPN events across channels
  • Work with Community and Membership Experience Councils to promote YNPN events on social media
  • Familiarity with or desire to learn Adobe InDesign preferred

Position: Strategic Partnerships Vice Chair
Committee: Strategic Partnerships Committee
Council: Community Council

Working in conjunction with the Strategic Partnerships Chair, the Vice Chair is responsible for engaging with partners to advance the mission of YNPN Austin.

  • Create new and enhance existing partnerships with local membership and nonprofit organizations to identify meaningful collaborations
  • Work closely with other YNPN Austin Board members to identify needs and develop strategies to support those needs
  • Connect YNPN Austin Board members to partners that will aid in advancing the mission of YNPN Austin
  • Actively network and promote YNPN Austin, engaging with organizations both in-person and via online communities
