The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Austin (YNPN Austin) works to provide accessible professional development opportunities that empower young leaders and advance the nonprofit community. Our vision is a cultivated network of engaged young leaders that meets the diverse needs of the greater Austin nonprofit community. No previous experience with YNPN Austin is required to apply, just a love for the nonprofit community!

The YNPN Austin Board strives to be accessible and inclusive of everyone. Our Board Positions vary in time commitment from 5 - 15 hours per month dependent on the level of position. We value flexibility and offer call-in options for internal meetings.

Board Roles and Expectations:

All Board Members must be YNPN Austin Members starting on their board term. More information on Membership and scholarships are available at https://www.ynpnaustin.org/membership. Board dues for Chair and Executive positions are $50 per year. Dues can be raised during Amplify Austin, sponsored by your employer and/or paid on a payment plan. Dues should not be a barrier to entry and will be excused for any Board Member unable to commit to the financial obligation. 

Time commitments range from 1-5 hours per week depending on position.

Position Descriptions:

Vice President of Communications:

This Board Chair position sits on the Executive Board Council and leads the Communications Council that manages internal and external communications for YNPN Austin. This role organizes the YNPN Austin agenda & meetings for board & exec team, guides strategy, and makes decisions to move organization forward. The best part of this role is the opportunity to get to interact with all members and to be a connector. This position also allows one to be creative, strategic, help grow the organization and work behind-the-scenes magic.

Estimated time expectation: On average 15 hours including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting, Executive Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Vice President of Programming:

This Board Chair position sits on the Executive Board Council and leads the Programming Council to execute YNPN Austin's mission of providing quality programming and networking opportunities to members, and the community. This role will partake in exec-level strategy conversations and decisions and lead the programming and vision of the programming content that we deliver to our members, particularly professional development programming and skills building. The best thing about this role is having a hand in shaping the experience that YNPN Austin members have.

Estimated time expectation: On average 15 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting, Executive Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Vice President of Finance:

This Board Chair positions sits on the Executive Board Council and leads the Finance Council to lead all financial related duties of the organization. This position, along with the Executive Council, is responsible for financial and administrative governance. This includes leading our annual budget process, monthly financial reporting, state and federal tax fillings, by-law compliance and administration of organizational assets. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 15 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting, Executive Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Governance Council

At-large Chair (Governance Council)

This Board Chair position sits on the Governance Council. This special Chair role will work across committees and connect board members. The Chair will provide big picture perspective, assist on governance and oversight policies, and lead special projects and task forces.

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting, and at least one event per quarter. 

DEI Chair (Governance Council)

This Board Chair position sits on the Governance Council and is responsible for the overall management and strategy of YNPN’s equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and directives. The EDI Chair is responsible for ensuring the YNPN EDI statement, along with any additional statements concerning race, gender, religion and all identities are implemented and upheld within the internal and external structure of YNPN Austin. As a member of the YNPN Austin Board of Directors, the EDI Chair will support the work of YNPN Austin and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting, and at least one event per quarter. 

DEI Vice Chair (Governance Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Governance Council and is responsible for managing the EDI Committee and supporting the EDI Chair in the overall management and strategy of YNPN’s equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and directives. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Finance Council

Development Chair (Finance Council)

This Chair role sits on the Finance Council and is responsible for leading fundraising strategies for YNPN Austin and identifying, securing, and stewarding sponsors to fund YNPN Austin programming and events. The Chair leads year-round individual fundraising efforts such as Amplify Austin and Giving Tuesday. The Chair also oversees Development Committee activities, working with the Development Vice Chair to ensure Committee Members are equipped with the tools and support they need to successfully build meaningful relationships with each other, with funders, and with community partners. The Chair also serves as liaison between Development Committee and YNPN Austin Board and works with Do Gooder Games Vice Chair to plan and execute the Do Gooder Games, YNPN Austin’s annual fundraising event.

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Development Vice Chair (Finance Council)

This Vice Chair sits on the Finance Council and is responsible for assisting in fundraising strategies for YNPN Austin and identifying, securing, and stewarding sponsors to fund YNPN Austin programming and events. The Vice Chair assists with year-round individual fundraising efforts such as Amplify Austin and Giving Tuesday. The Vice Chair oversees the Development Committee activities, working with the Development Chair to ensure Committee Members are equipped with the tools and support they need to successfully build meaningful relationships with each other, with funders, and with community partners. The Vice Chair drafts and manages the monthly agenda and assigns tasks to committee members. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Do Gooder Games Vice Chair (Finance Council)

This Vice Chair sits on the Finance Council and is responsible for organizing the Do Gooder Games, the largest annual fundraiser for YNPN Austin. This role handles all event logistics including venue, food procurement, in-kind donations, and coordination with external and internal groups. This role allows one to bring creativity and create a new experience each year.   

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Finance Vice Chair (Finance Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Finance Council and assists YNPN Austin in financial planning and budgeting. This position will assist the Vice President of Finance in developing, updating, and presenting the budget. This role will assist with administration of YNPN Austin accounts and vendors. This role will also assist in creation of finance policies that govern YNPN Austin. The best part of this role will being able to learn hands on to develop financial policy to strengthen a small non-profit. 

Estimated Monthly Time Commitment: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Technology Vice Chair (Finance Council)

This Vice Chair sits on the Finance Council and will provide leadership and support of YNPN Austin's technological assets. This includes execution of CRM software, password maintenance and safety, IT support, and budgetary research. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Communications Council 

Communications Chair (Communications Council)

This Chair sits on the Communications Council and is responsible for cohesive, timely, and relevant public-facing communications for YNPN Austin. This role is a liaison between committee members, vice-chairs and executive committees and is tasked with overseeing the implementation of YNPN Austin’s mission, vision, and values through communication efforts. As social media is largely the mechanism for how we reach members and potential members to attend YNPN Austin events and be aware of other opportunities to engage, the Communications Chair is responsible for the execution of social media, including tracking analytics and reviewing metrics. Daily/weekly tasks include scheduling posts on all platforms in accordance with the platforms themes (hashtags, links, etc.), linking social media to YNPN Austin website and/or newsletter, discerning when to pay for promotion and how much to pay according to post goals, tracking budget, analyzing metrics, interacting with partner accounts to grow audiences and maintain relevance, create/maintain monthly communications planning brief, assist vice chairs in carrying out their work, and developing communications skills of vice-chairs and other committee members. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Digital Media Vice Chair (Communications Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Communications Committee and is a technical and creative role that focuses on traditional digital outlets, such as website maintenance and newsletter management for YNPN Austin. This role will manage the YNPN Austin website, oversee the creation of the YNPN Austin newsletter using content created by the Social Media Vice Chair, schedule and send YNPN Austin newsletter, and occasionally sends special email notifications to the membership base as needed. Skills gained in this position may include Mailchimp, NationBuilder, Web Development, and Graphic Design. 

Estimated Monthly Time Commitment: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Social Media Vice Chair (Communications Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Communications Council and is a creative role that focuses on content creation for YNPN Austin social media, website, newsletter, and other external-facing collateral. Tasks include creating and/or overseeing committee member creation of images/content for social media posts appropriate to each platform (photo, image, GIF, video, etc.), providing articles, events, or other relevant content for social media and newsletter, taking and/or gathering photos from YNPN Austin events, and developing copy for promoting all YNPN Austin events and programs to be shared with Digital Media Vice Chair. Skills gained in this position include the use of Canva and Abode InDesign. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Multimedia Vice Chair (Communications Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Communications Council and is responsible for the  creation of digital assets that the Communications Council can use on social media, the YNPN Austin newsletter and the YNPN Austin website. The position works closely with the Social Media Vice Chair and the Digital Media Vice Chair to create multimedia content to be used in scheduled posts and communications.

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Community Council 

Strategic Partnership Chair (Community Council)

This Chair sits on the Community Council and is responsible for ensuring that YNPN Austin builds and cultivates meaningful relationships. The Chair ensures that the Strategic Partnership Vice Chair and each committee member has the tools to succeed in their roles. The Chair represents YNPN Austin in the community and constantly explores and develops potential relationships with others. Tasks include working with the Vice Chair for strategic direction of the committee, assisting in checking in with committee members, setting up meetings with potential and current partners, ensuring outreach of programming to other nonprofits and groups, thinking strategically on outreach to underrepresented groups, and working with other committees regarding potential partnerships. The best part of this role is the ability to work with an amazing committee of very engaged and thoughtful leaders, the opportunity to meet and talk with other nonprofits, organizations, businesses that care about the nonprofit sector, and getting to use data to make decisions.

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Strategic Partnership Vice Chair (Community Council)

This Vice Chair role sits on the Community Council and is responsible for ensuring that YNPN Austin builds and cultivates meaningful relationships. The Vice Chair leads the Strategic Partnership committee by drafting and managing the monthly agenda and assigning tasks. The Vice Chair represents YNPN Austin in the community and constantly explores and develops potential relationship with others. Tasks include working with the Chair for strategic direction of the committee, assisting in checking in with committee members, setting up meetings with potential and current partners, ensuring outreach of programming to other nonprofits and groups, thinking strategically on outreach to underrepresented groups, and working with other committees regarding potential partnerships. The best part of this role is the ability to work with an amazing committee of very engaged and thoughtful leaders, the opportunity to meet and talk with other nonprofits, organizations, businesses that care about the nonprofit sector and getting to use data to make decisions.

Membership Engagement Vice Chair (Community Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Community Council and is responsible for assisting in the overall recruitment and stewardship of YNPN Austin memberships. This Vice Chair assists in welcoming new individual and organizational members and ensuring they are aware of all benefits and ways to connect with YNPN Austin. This position also supports the outreach to organizational members for the YNPN Austin member spotlight in the newsletter and creating other connection points ahead of renewals and major events. This position sets the committee agenda and assigns tasks to committee members. This position is able to work closely with other committees and is the outward face of YNPN Austin to welcome new members. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Programming Council

Membership Events Chair (Programming Council)

This Board Chair sits on the Programming Council and leads the execution of YNPN Austin Membership events, which focus on networking and creating community within Austin. This includes responsibility for all event logistics, including strategic planning of event types and themes, day-of logistics, event planning, venue, and food procurement. This Chair role will ensure board participation and coordination with other board committees to execute events. This role will also track key performance measures and monitor the Membership Events budget monthly. The best part of this role is being able to be a project manager and support members in leadership opportunities. This role also offers event planning experience and connecting/networking with local area executive directors. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 15 hours per month including attendance at monthly Board Meeting, Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Membership Events Vice Chair (Programming Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Programming Council and supports the execution of YNPN Austin Membership events, which focus on networking and creating community within Austin. This includes responsibility for all event logistics, including strategic planning of event types and themes, day of logistics, event planning, venue and food procurement. This role is also responsible for the stewarding of committee members by keeping them engaged during events and committee meetings, as well as directing and setting the agenda for the committee meeting. The best part of this role is being able to be a project manager and support members in leadership opportunities. This role also offers event planning experience and connecting/networking with local area executive directors. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 10 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Curriculum Vice Chair (Programming Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Programming Council and is responsible for the supporting the strategic direction and implementation of curriculum that guides our external events. The Vice Chair will support the link between our programming and the YNPN Austin competency model. The Vice Chair will research, assist in the development, and work with external vendors to implement a cohesive curriculum to guide YNPN Austin professional development. This position will be available to attend professional development events. The Vice Chair will also lead program evaluation and feedback for YNPN Austin. 

Estimated time expectation: On average 5 hours per month including attendance at four Board Meetings per year, the monthly Council Meeting and at least one event per quarter. 

Professional Development Vice Chair (Programming Council)

This Vice Chair position sits on the Programming Council and assists with the execution of YNPN Austin Professional Development events. This includes responsibility for all event logistics, including working with speakers, venues, and execution of the event. This Vice Chair position will work closely with the Curriculum Chair and Events Council to build the core competencies of our members and ensure their professional development. The best part of this role is meeting new members and organizations through the events and the fast paced events atmosphere.
