What is the mission of your organization?
Generation SERVE's mission is to engage children in volunteerism and empower them to make a difference in their communities
How long have you been operating in Austin?
We were founded on June 28th, 2009.
How do you measure success?
We want to reach as many kids with our programs as possible and want those kids to participate in volunteerism on a regular basis. We hope that kids will engage in our service pathway, developing a habit of volunteerism and finding their lifelong passion for service. So, we measure number of kids served, repeat rates, and self reported impact of our programs on the child.
What is one goal that your organization has for the upcoming year?
This year we are celebrating our organization’s 10th birthday! We want to celebrate this milestone with our longtime supporters and volunteers and we want to plan for engaging even more youth in service over the next decade!
Name a milestone that your organization has recently achieved or overcome. Why was this so important?
Our Family Volunteering programs has always served youth of all ages, but over the years we have observed that, as children get older, they are ready to volunteer more independently and with their peers. Because we want to make sure that we are offering opportunities that resonate with kids of all ages, we have introduced new programs over the last few years for youth in these older age groups. Our Service Learning, Dedicated Family Placements, and Youth Leadership programs allow kids to learn alongside their peers, continue to volunteer and also take their work to a new level of community leadership.
What is an interesting fact about your org that most people don't know about?
We serve over 7,200 kids through our programs annually with a staff of only 10 people! We are a lean, yet mighty team of motivated individuals. Passion for Service is one of our core values and our team embodies this value - everyone on our team does volunteer work in their free time and is committed to making their local community a better place to live!
Why did you join YNPN Austin? How do you feel that YNPN can benefit your employees?
We decided to join YNPN because of individual interest in membership from our staff and because we love collaborating with other nonprofits. We partner with over 100 organizations across Austin, so learning about our nonprofit community, making connections with other nonprofit professionals and maintaining relationships with nonprofit workers across Austin are essential to the work we do. We love bringing youth and family volunteers to new organizations to alleviate their workload, help them achieve their missions and showcase the power of youth to make a difference in our community!
