YNPN’s Day in the Life series traveled to South Austin to spend a day at nonprofit community lender Business & Community Lenders (BCL) of Texas. Lindsay Ignatowski, BCL’s Communications Coordinator, shared what a typical day of managing the organization’s communications across two locations brings her:
9-10am: Settle in by checking emails, reviewing social media accounts, and scheduling new posts. Lindsay keeps a detailed work plan of tasks for ongoing projects that she updates at the beginning of each day.
10-11am: Monthly marketing meeting with members of the organization’s entrepreneurship team to coordinate on communication needs for upcoming events.
11am-12pm: Follow up with vendors; for example, request and review quotes for printing the organization’s annual report or a graphic design project.
12-2pm: Lunch at a planning meeting for a community event. Right now, BCL is beginning to prepare for the Affordable Housing Forum hosted by the Alliance of Economic Inclusion, of which they are a member organization.
2-3pm: Travel back to the office, check in on emails and social media. Review strategies for upcoming events with her supervisor on the car ride back.
3-5:30pm: The end of the day is usually Lindsay’s creative time to work on projects. Today, she is designing a graphic for an upcoming open house event. She will then create an event listing on the organization’s website and social media, post to community calendars, and draft an email blast to go out to partners and clients.
Lindsay’s favorite part of her job is that she gets to work with all of the organization’s staff members across multiple programs and lines of business. “Every day is different, and brings new challenges, and new opportunities to learn,” she said.
