Through direct action, organizing, research, and public education, Grassroots works with communities throughout Texas and the United States to create a more just society where prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization are things of the past.

Grounded in a strong history of multiracial organizing for social justice, Grassroots has grown rapidly in the last 2 years to address the threats to fundamental human rights that expanding for-profit prison systems and national immigration policies create by unjustly channeling black and brown individuals into the justice system. The team is strong, diverse, and comprised predominantly of individuals who bring lived experience in affected communities, as well as organizing skill and strategy. Through trusted relationships, team members work to realize a vision for the future that breaks the cycle of trauma and allows for healing and power-building in communities.

Following the transition of its long-serving executive director to pursue new career opportunities, Grassroots now invites a new generation of leadership to share in responsibilities for stewarding its impactful work. The Co-Executive Directors will collaborate in programmatic, administrative, and operational leadership based on their respective strengths, equal status, and complementary skill sets. They will guide the next chapter of growth through a shared leadership approach in which the strengths of all team members will be amplified through coordinated teamwork to serve the community.

The ideal candidates will have deep passion for, and personal connection to, criminal justice reform, immigration, and the fight for human dignity, especially for marginalized, affected communities. They will have leadership experience in community organizing, movement building, and organizational management; and model integrity, courage, humility, and resilience in all their work and actions.
