AmeriCorps Early Literacy Tutor - Literacy First

Literacy First Tutors work full-time in a low-income elementary school teaching young children to read. Literacy First places highly trained AmeriCorps tutors in low-income elementary schools in Austin to ensure K-2nd grade children advance to grade level in reading before third grade. 75% of students in our program either fully reach or make measurable progress reading at grade level helping close the opportunity gap in Austin.

What's Involved?

  • Commit to serving as Literacy First Tutor for 10 months from September through June
  • Provide daily 1-on-1 tutoring to 10-12 K-2nd grade students
  • Teach and learn using a research-based curriculum
  • Participate in community service projects with local non-profits Benefits:
